18 September 2023 – DF Labs and Kitiran Foundation successfully hosted a landmark webinar, “AI Opportunities in a New Era: The Right Mindset and Application,” on September 17, 2023. Featuring keynote speaker Sabrang Mowo Damar Panuluh and moderated by Raihan Ahmad Ahimsa of DF Labs, the online event drew over 200 participants from across Indonesia’s tech, academic, and creative sectors to explore how Generative AI is reshaping our society.
As Generative AI models advance at breakneck speed, understanding both their promise and pitfalls is critical. DF Labs, a community-driven Applied AI R&D collective, and Kitiran Foundation, dedicated to raising AI awareness nationwide, joined forces to clarify the opportunities, risks, and real-world applications of this disruptive technology for an Indonesian context.
Sabrang Mowo Damar Panuluh kicked off the session with a deep dive into how today’s Generative AI differs from earlier AI paradigms, spotlighting advances in natural language generation, image synthesis, and adaptive learning. He emphasized that AI is inherently a double-edged sword—unleashing immense potential but also introducing novel risks—and stressed the need for proactive adaptation to harness its benefits while mitigating harms. A focal point was the “right mindset,” combining awareness, continuous upskilling, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, to ensure AI projects succeed and scale responsibly, with real-world case studies illustrating both best practices and cautionary tales.
Looking ahead, Sabrang painted a vision of Indonesian society where AI integration is ubiquitous across sectors like education, healthcare, and creative industries, requiring ongoing learning, policy evolution, and active public engagement to navigate effectively.
